Rural women in Burkina Faso, grouped under the CULTIVONS BURKINA campaign (in French), are working to establish strong and effective agricultural policies that will ensure food security and nutrition for farming families.
With their effort, during the presidential election campaign at the end of 2015, they achieved a commitment from six political parties to accomplish "Ten steps to build Burkina without hunger" (in French).
In the context of municipal elections next May 22th, the candidates to local councils have the opportunity to turn those commitments into real actions by donating a quota of 30% of arable land by the state and local administration to rural women.
The pressure of the international community is essential to force mayors and political parties’ in Burkina Faso to accept the demands of rural women. Action in Twitter can be found under the hashtags #droitàlaterre #nousveillons.
